Italy is one of the most significant markets in Europe for floating wind as it aims to generate 55% of total electricity generation from renewables by 2030. With a large coastline and good wind resources, especially in the deep waters of the Mediterranean Sea Italy has strong potential for floating wind.
The south coast of Sardinia offers the perfect conditions for electricity generation by offshore wind. With its capacity of 1550 KW Sardinia South 1 will be able to supply many households and industries in Sardinia with clean electricity for years to come. Â Sardinia South 1 is one of seven projects currently run by AvenHexicon. AvenHexicon was established in 2021 as a joint venture between Hexicon AB and Avapa Energy Srl. to help Italy in its transition to a more sustainable electricity production.
The project has secured seabed south of Sardinia which is the latest milestone that has been achieved. The next milestone will be the geophysical investigation which is planned to start sometime during 2024.
