A joint venture between Hexicon AB and Coens

Project

Pohang is an 800MW-1,000MW project owned and managed by HexiconKorea (60%) and Korea Local Companies (40%). HexiconKorea is in turn a joint venture between Hexicon AB and Coens, established in 2018.

 

The Pohang project is split into two areas Gyeongsangbuk-do (Pohang 02 and 03) and Gyeongsanbuk-do (Pohang 04 and 05). Located 16.7 kilometres respectively 32 kilometres from the southeast coast of South Korea. As the respective water depth is 94 m and 273 m floating offshore wind Is a great alternative for producing stable sustainable energy for the Korean community. Once completed the Pohang project will have the capacity to power up to 800 000 – 1,000 000 homes.

 

South Korea aims to raise renewables’ share to 20% by 2030 and up to a striking 42% by 2034, the ambition is to become carbon neutral by 2050. South Korea is focusing on expanding solar and wind power. By 2025, it aims to install 42.7 gigawatts of new solar and wind energy.

Pohang 02 and 03

Milestones

The Pohang 02 and 03 project has received all necessary seabed permits and has therefore secured the selected sea area for the construction. Next milestone will be to install LIDAR for a one-year measurement campaign.
